DiscoveryResources.org–#1

by Mary Mack

Dennis Kennedy and Tom Mighell award DiscoveryResources.org their highest praise in an excellent list of educational resources for electronic discovery. We knew they respected DiscoveryResources.org, as these two gentlemen write for it. Not known for their pursuit of money, we understand their contribution is an acknowledgement of their regard for the site–and it’s content diva, Julia Wotipka. (Disclosure: Julia and I both work for Fios, the main sponsor of DiscoveryResources.org)

For a couple of years prior to starting DiscoveryResources.org, Julia collected articles and links to amazing places on the web. She’d share them with us enthusiastically–and then started on a path of putting up a share, or an internet, or a wiki for us at Fios to use internally.

Carl Liggio, one of our founding board members and a founding board member of the Association of Corporate Counsel, asked for a website that would house reference material on the web for the legal community RIGHT AWAY. Discussion ensued about whether it should be on Fiosinc.com or become “vendor neutral” space. I’ll let you guess where Julia came down on that issue. When Carl asks, he’s not really “asking”. Julia shifted gears and in a matter of a couple days(!) she and her team had the first version of DiscoveryResources.org online.

As a result of her dogged pursuit of more and more information, separation of the educational from the commercial, and careful tending, DiscoveryResources.org attracts articles from our fiercest competitors. This, along with material donated by the leading legal minds from the best law firms, corporations and innovators like Dennis, Tom and Evan Schaeffer, are the qualitative measures of success. The increasing traffic and average amount of time spent on the site are the quantitative measure.

From Tom and Dennis’ article in the ABA’s Law Practice Management’s Law Practice today, EDD-ucating Yourself About Electronic Discovery,

DiscoveryResources.org reigns as the best one-stop shop Internet resource on electronic discovery. Julia Wotipka has done an amazing job with this educational site produced by EDD vendor Fios, Inc. From articles and columns (including one that we write with Evan Schaeffer) to webinars, podcasts and forms, you can find almost anything you want about electronic discovery here. (See disclosure statement below).

PS–Tom and Dennis, thanks for including this blog in your links list. I am humbled to be in such good company. Looking forward to hearing more about Litigation 2.0.
